Do patients fail weight loss regimens or do these regimens fail patients?

...... Given the tremendous number of Americans trying to lose weight and the immense financial investment involved, the lack of well-designed, long-term clinical trials evaluating various methods for voluntary weight loss is disturbing.2  The available data is quite discouraging. The following links summarize the literature showing that dieting, drugs, and surgery are not safe or effective weight loss practices. Further, even when initial weight loss is achieved, it is unlikely to decrease and may actually increase health risks either independently or secondary to weight cycling.
